The services industry is surfing on two waves these days: corporate outsourcing and the Internet. Service companies are now launching products online, transforming their core offerings and boosting revenues. At the same time, businesses are outsourcing what they might once have considered key operations, creating great demand for companies that provide those services. It's a heady time for the professional and business services segment, which includes restaurants, hotels and motels, personal services, and real estate and rental services. Consider the booming restaurant industry. Nearly half of all American adults will visit a restaurant at least once on any given day. Why? Restaurant owners can thank rising income levels, working women and increases in travel. Growth in those factors alone doesn't guarantee success, though. Winners in this industry have to minimize turnover, maintain the freshness and relevance of their brand and avoid operational pitfalls. |
